Hello friend! My name is Amy, and I live on a little 6-acre farm in Wisconsin. I am so happy you have stopped by ✨ If you are new here, a warm welcome to you! This space is where I meander through midlife, connecting to my true self through the seasonal shifts and simpler living, and seeking my inner wise woman. If you are also on this path and looking for someone to walk gently beside you, I see you and am here. Let’s color outside the lines together.
Do you find a little niggling in the back of your consciousness when you are out in nature?
Do you stop for a moment and listen to the birds sing, relish in the growth of your garden or gaze upon the full moon? I have always found such connections with the seasons (the wheel of the year). When B and I married in 1998, I made a point to set our wedding date for March 21st. Ostara (the Spring Equinox) is a time of rebirth and awakening. A moment in perfect balance to continue our lives together.
Have you ever aspired to be more sustainable and self-sufficient?
Have you ever considered starting a garden and preserving food? Or maybe enjoying the antics of your own flock of hens? These are things near and dear to my heart. They are the reason we bought the farm in the first place, and now that the kids are grown, I am looking at reinvigorating our practices on a smaller scale for our empty nest.
Much of what I write here reflects living simpler and in tune with nature and the wheel of the year. As I am in the throes of perimenopause and B and I are becoming empty nesters, this space will offer words about entering my inner wild woman phase; the trials and joys of aging while continuing to color outside of the lines.

A little background…
Since 2009, I've been Tilting at Windmills...after almost a seven-year break, I have returned as The Meandering Muse.
Some may think running a small business is enough to keep a young family busy. In 2007, we purchased a 130-year-old farmstead on six acres. We wanted to garden, eat seasonally, preserve food, raise farm animals, and pursue a sustainable lifestyle while raising our young children. We have managed all of the typical family fun stuff: teenage years, club sports, and first dates; we now also have a deep understanding of advocating for mental health, which has become very dear to my heart.
Today, our children are both in their 20s and spreading their wings while we begin to preen our empty nest. In 2022 and 2023, respectively, B and I also each lost our mothers, after short and unexpected illnesses. We are profusely feeling the seasons of change. Through entering this new phase of life, my voice has found volume again. Join me while I meander through life while trying, as always, to take a less-traveled road.
