Utilizing Chive Flowers
a couple of easy tips for the first harvest
Over Memorial Day weekend, our farmβs kitchen was all about chive flowers. A staple that I make each year is chive flower vinegar. It is a simple recipe that is perfect for a summertime salad vinaigrette. I fill a mason jar with chive flowers, and fill it up with white wine vinegar. I let it sit for 2 weeks in a cool dark place, agitating it whenever I think about it, then strain off the flowers. We are then left with a beautiful pink infusion, easy, peasy!
I then came across a great website called Rhubarb and Lavender. It is such a fun website that has recipes inspired by themes. Both of the following recipes were inspired by Lord of the Rings. So Fun! From there I made a chive blossom compound butter that I served with these cheddar scones (that I substituted chives for the green onion). Not only easy, but beautiful!

My chives are the first thing in the garden that are in abundance and with the remaining flowers, I am going to try a chive flower salt. The nice thing about all of these recipes is that they make great hostess, housewarming or holiday gifts.
Iβd love to hear what you are making right now!
Until next time,
