Rooting Deeper
growth in the quiet season (with journaling prompts)
Winter under cultivationIs as arable as Spring.~ Emily Dickinson
This week’s final full moon of the year ushers us into a darker, quieter season leading up to the solstice. It is referred to as the Cold Moon, and its meaning is tied to the stillness of winter and the act of reflecting inward. The full moon is a time to celebrate your accomplishments (gratitude) and to let go of what is no longer serving you (release). This month’s full moon is special because it is the third of three consecutive supermoons that are closing out 2025. Simply put, the moon is at its closest to the Earth in its orbit during this time and will appear brighter and even a little larger on the horizon. (assuming there aren’t any clouds).
Slowing down is the essence of growth during this season. Just as nature appears dormant, the root systems underground are deepening, conserving energy for the next expansion period. I’m drawn to feeling intentional during these days leading up to the end of the year.
The weeks leading up to the Yule are for nurturing, reflection, and caregiving for myself and my home. Then the week between Christmas and New Year’s will be a different kind of quiet, that of the Omen Days (also referred to as the 12 days of Christmas). This will be the time to look forward and set intentions for the months ahead. The combination of the two leaves me feeling like I’m tending my own roots for next year’s growth.
If you, too, want to take this time to lean into the quiet, ask yourself a few questions:
What gentle work is happening beneath the surface for me right now?
What is no longer serving me that I can let go of?
What small steps of progress can I make as the light begins to return?
What are you doing to cultivate your inner wise woman in the days leading up to the solstice?
Until next time,
Hello friend! My name is Amy. I am so happy you have stopped by ✨ If you are new here, a warm welcome to you! This space is where I meander through midlife, connecting to my true self through the seasonal shifts and simpler living, and seeking my inner wise woman. If you are also on this path and looking for someone to walk gently beside you, I see you and am here. Let’s color outside the lines together.
